Gabriel Announces Safety Promotion with Thomas Tyres

Thomas Tyres, the national retail fitment centre, is participating in a Gabriel shock absorber promotion running until the end of July.

All Thomas Tyre fitment staff are eligible to win prizes ranging from TVs to electronic devices such as iPads and iPods.

The in-house promotion is running at 18 stores throughout Gauteng and Mpumalanga. Winners will be chosen based on the highest sales of Gabriel shocks.

Thomas Tyres, which has a 50 year history, has 21 retail branches and four Bandag retread factories nationwide. The company specialises in a wide range of products including tyres, brakes, shocks, towbars, exhausts, wheel balancing and wheel-alignment.

Last week, Gabriel launched a new strap line, selecting words that reflect the ethos of the brand and the people working for Gabriel.

It was designed with the aim of positioning Gabriel with words that motivate, have an emotive connection, stand for quality and are innovative: Be Safe, Be Sure.

In 2007, Gabriel shocks and struts joined an elite club of iconic brands in celebrating their 100th anniversary. Gabriel is now a South African brand, with its shocks locally designed and manufactured to meet South Africa’s harsh road conditions.

“There are other competitive product offerings in the market, some locally manufactured, others imported and some of dubious quality. The Gabriel brand has always been about the entire value proposition to its customers and the product range,” said Sean Staley, Control Instruments-Automotive divisional head – Drive Control.

One of the latest initiatives undertaken in response to customer demand is providing a suspension tester solution to the market. Gabriel’s marketing and engineering staff identified and validated a suspension tester manufactured by Actia Muller, which was adopted for the local market by Gabriel and now operational at fitment centres countrywide.

About Gabriel:

Gabriel is a division of Control Instruments Automotive, a wholly owned subsidiary of the JSE listed Control Instruments Group.  Control Instruments Automotive holds the manufacturing and distribution rights to the Gabriel range of shocks, struts and cartridge products for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Gabriel is now in its 77th year in South Africa. The company manufactures shock absorbers for most vehicles.

Gabriel was originally imported into SA in 1935.  During that time, the company has introduced a number of world-first designs that were subsequently manufactured in plants worldwide.  It was also the first shock absorber company to advertise on TV.
