Those who have registered for the conference can look forward to gaining insight from key note speakers from around the world on topics such as surveying, geo-informatics, GIS, mapping, remote sensing and location-based business.

Etienne Louw, the Managing Director of mapIT, will be addressing the topic; The Relevance of Accurate Geospatial data and databases. Mr Louw will cover the methodology around creating maps ranging from imagery to digital and paper maps. Included amongst these are community inputs (these maintain the freshness of content), mobile mapping van (capturing vital information on routes such as height, depth and important road signage), aerial photography, field surveys and input from partners and customers alike.  Mr Louw commented “Combining ‘crowd sourcing’ with professional GIS back office QA/QC processes delivers the freshest, most accurate spatial databases.” Mr Louw will also cover the importance of quality data, that both enterprises and governments are expecting for accurate planning in urban as well as rural areas.

Tom Westendorp, Account Manager for TomTom Africa will be hosting a training workshop on Day 2 of the conference and will be presenting on ‘TomTom’s TrafficStats for comprehensive planning’. The session which will cover custom area analysis as well as custom travel times which provide granular speed & bottleneck traffic information for small or large road networks aimed towards various businesses and governments. Traffic engineers, planners and managers, environmental consultants, road management & construction companies as well as geomarketeers would benefit from this workshop to see how this system can support them in traffic bottleneck analysis, traffic modeling, site selection, noise & emission studies.

Byron Moorgas, Account Manager for mapIT will be running an additional training session on Day 1 presenting on ‘TomTom’s real time traffic information for comprehensive planning and enhancing mobile workforce applications’. Governments as well as companies in various industries need real-time traffic information in order to monitor the traffic conditions, to route vehicles quickly to their destination and for example to optimize routing. This training session will help delegates understand the use case of real time traffic solutions.
