Collision at the intersection of Alpine Road and Umgeni Road leaves two seriously injured

Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious collision on Saturday morning at the intersection of Alpine Road and Umgeni Road.

First to arrive Rescue Care paramedics found that two vehicles had collided in the junction before one vehicle rolled and landed in the drain running parallel to Umgeni Road on its roof. Miraculously the driver of the vehicle that rolled had climbed out of the wreckage and was found on the side of the road. The other driver was entrapped in the vehicle and fire fighters had to use the jaws of life to free him from the vehicle. Both patients were stabilized on the scene before being transported by Rescue Care and ER24 to local Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected in all directions entering the junction.
