Woman Killed, Two Critical in Nasrec Road Collision between car and taxi

[JOHANNESBURG – Nasrec Road near Ormonde at 15:00 7 July 2013]

A 48 year old woman was killed and at least two people were left in a critical condition when two vehicles and a taxi collided with each other on Nasrec Road South of Johannesburg this afternoon.

It is understood that the two vehicles collided head on with each other leaving the passenger of one of the vehicles with fatal injuries. A taxi also crashed into the same vehicle. The driver of the vehicle sustained critical injuries and the local fire department had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the roof of the car before the man could be extricated.

Another person sustained critical injuries from the second vehicle and was rushed off to a nearby hospital for further treatment. A passenger in the vehicle sustained only moderate injuries.

Several occupants from the taxi were treated on the scene for minor injuries before being transported to various hospitals in the area.

The exact cause of this incident is not yet known. The Johannesburg Metro Police Department attended the incident and will conduct an investigation into the matter.
