19 Injured, 5 Serious In Queen Nandi Drive Taxi Collision

Crisis Medical Paramedics responded to reports of a serious collision on Queen Nandi Drive at around 07:00 this morning.

First to arrive on scene, paramedics found that a fully laden taxi had lost control and collided with a private security vehicle, rolled repeatedly and flung out passengers in the process. Crisis Medical paramedics immediately set about stabilising the injured and requested additional help to deal with the extensive scene.

It was established that 2 people in the security vehicle had sustained serious injuries and were fully immobilised with suspected spinal and leg fracture injuries before being transported to Ethekwini Hospital for further treatment.

It is believe that 11 passenger of the taxi, 4 of whom were deemed critical were injured in the collision. A medical rescue helicopter was called to the scene to transport the most critical patient who had been placed on a manual ventilator. All of the injured were then transported to various local hospitals for medical treatment.

At this stage it is unknown what caused the collision and will be subject to an SAPS investigation.
