6 car pile up leaves 1 dead and 3 injured

Just after 6am this morning Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious collision on the N2 South bound before spaghetti junction involving six vehicles.

On arrival paramedics found that six vehicles had collided obstructing three out four lanes of the N2 South. Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that unfortunately one person had died before paramedics arrived on the scene due to the severe injuries he had sustained. A further three people had sustained various injuries and were stabilized on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the collision however it is suspected that a vehicle had broken down and another vehicle ploughed into it before other vehicles colliding in a chain reaction.

SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as only the fast lane was open to traffic while authorities worked to clear the scene.
