Taxi collision at Umgeni Road and Argyle Road leaves 13 injured

Just after 5am this morning Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious collision at Umgeni Road and Argyle Road.

First to arrive Rescue Care paramedics found total carnage. A taxi had collided with a trailer that was being towed by a vehicle, the taxi then overturned ejecting most of the passengers onto the road way. Patients were found scattered around the wrecked vehicles. A quick assessment was done and more resources were called in to assist with the multiple casualty scene. Two patients had sustained very serious injuries and Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to assist in stabilizing them on the scene. Once all the injured were stabilized they were taken to various Durban hospitals for further care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the collision however it is thought one of the vehicle disregarded a red traffic signal. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as Umgeni Road was closed at Argyle Road coming into Durban central.
