A 44 year old woman has been badly injured after she came off her mountain bike on the Giba Gorge Trail in the outlying area of Hillcrest near the M13 today.

It is not known as to what exactly happened, but the woman is believed to have been flung over the handle bars of the bike. She came down very hard onto the ground and paramedics were called to assist in her treatment. When they arrived they found the woman to be in a lot of pain, and they determined that her jaw could have been broken.

Due to the distance to hospital and the uneven terrain, it was decided that it would be safest to airlift the patient to hospital. AER24 was called to the scene and paramedics continued treatment on the injured woman.

The woman’s care deteriorated due to the broken bones in her face and she was placed on life support. She remains in a critical but stable condition in the Hillcrest Private Hospital.
