Bus and taxi collide head on in Reagent Park

A passenger bus an taxi collided head on into one another in Reagent Park this morning at the corners of North and East streets.

Paramedics arrived to find that both vehicles had been extensively damaged and the front of the bus was ripped apart and had come to rest against a street pole. The driver of the bus, a man in his 40’s, was ejected through the windshield of the bus and was found lying quite a distance from where the bus had come to rest against the street pole. He showed no signs of life and his remains lay in the middle of the intersection. Paramedics had no option but to declare him dead on scene.

The 10 occupants of the taxi miraculously survived the impact with only minor and moderate injuries, despite witness reports that the taxi was dragged a few meters in the front of the bus before coming to rest.

Paramedics treated the injured and transported them to hospitals in the area for further care.

This collision is one of three in Johannesburg that ER24 attended to along with the fatal pedestrian collision on the M1 in Parktown and the fatal taxi collision on Cedar road West in Fourways.
