At around 7pm last night Pietermaritzburg paramedics rushed to the scene of a crash which had taken place off Willowfontein road. A single vehicle had left the road, crashed through the roadside barrier and rolled down an embankment.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find the vehicle having rolled into the yard of a house, coming to rest up against the wall of the house, fortunately not having crashed through into the house. The car was crushed and badly wrecked as a result of the accident.

It is believed that there were six occupants in the vehicle, four adult men and two young children. The two children were ejected from the vehicle and were rushed through to a nearby clinic by bystanders and their injuries are as yet unknown.

Pietermaritzburg paramedics placed the driver in life support as he ha sustained critical injuries. The three other men were treated for moderate injuries and all four men were taken to hospital by ambulance.

When paramedics arrived at hospital, the provincial services were en route to collect the two children from the local clinic to transport them to Edendale.
