Woman killed in alleged hit and run incident


A woman is believed to have been walking with a group of friends along the R54, approximately 3 kilometres outside of Potchefstroom from Vereeniging side, when she was knocked down by an unknown vehicle.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the woman in her 30’s had been badly injured, and the Advanced Life Support paramedic immediately took over her treatment. She desperately needed treatment due to the extensively critical nature of her injuries, and her condition deteriorated while paramedics were attempting to stabilise her. Immediate resuscitation attempts were started on the woman, but despite all attempts by paramedics to revive her, there was no change in her condition and she was later declared dead on scene.

The vehicle that had allegedly collided into the woman was no longer on scene when paramedics arrived.

The woman’s friends were not injured as a result of the incident. Local authorities will be conducting all necessary investigations into the details surrounding the cause of this fatal collision.
