Fatal collision on the R21

Just after 7pm on Sunday night, paramedics received a call out to a single vehicle collision which had taken place on the R21 in Kempton Park. The vehicle was travelling in  the direction of Pretoria, when just after the R23 Benoni exit, the driver appears to have lost control and the vehicle crashed through the roadside barrier.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find that the vehicle had rolled several meters and had come to rest on its side. The vehicle was badly damaged and all three of the occupants had been ejected from the vehicle.

One of the men, aged in his 40’s, had suffered extensive injuries and he had not survived the crash. Paramedics declared him dead on scene as all initial assessments revealed no signs of life.

A second patient, a man in his 30’s, was treated for critical injuries and he was placed onto life support by the Advanced Life Support paramedic and transported to Tembisa Hospital for further care. The final occupant of the vehicle had suffered moderate injuries and he was treated on scene before being transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

It is not yet clear as to what took place leading to the cause of this fatal collision, but local authorities who attended the scene will investigate.
