2 Injured In Athlone Bridge Collision

Crisis Medical Paramedics responded to reports of a serious collision on the Athlone Bridge, Durban North at 08:45 this morning.

First to arrive on scene, paramedics found a horror scene with a vehicle precariously lodged close to the edge of the bridge. A quick assessment revealed 3 people had sustained serious injury with 1 person still entrapped in the vehicle. Ethekwini Fire and Rescue arrived to assist in extricating the trapped man. A 36 year old make was found lying outside the vehicle with suspected head and spinal inquires. He was stabilized on scene before being transported to hospital by Crisis Medical ambulance for care.

Once the trapped man was freed and stabilized on scene, he was transported to hospital by Rescue Care. Another man who suffered minor injuries was also taken to hospital for further treatment.

At this stage it is I know what caused the collision however SAPS were on scene to determine the exact cause.

Traffic was severely affected as rescue personnel worked to clear the scene.
