3 car collision leaves 3 injured

On Friday evening just before 6pm Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious collision on Blair Atholl Road in Westville.

On arrival paramedics from Rescue Care and Swift EMS found that three vehicles had collided on the busy road. One of the drivers was found to be severely trapped in his car. Rescue services were immediately called and the paramedics began stabilizing the patient. Once the Fire Department arrived to assist the Jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment was used to free the trapped driver. Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilize the seriously injured man. Once stabilized he was carefully extricated from the wreckage before being placed on specialized equipment. He was then transported to a nearby hospital for further care that he required. Two other people had also sustained minor injuries and were also transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

It is unclear what caused the collision  however it is suspected that the extremely wet weather could have been the cause of the collision. Saps were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as both lanes going into Westville were closed whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
