Serious collision between bus and car in Durban leaves 10 injured, 2 critical

Ten people have sustained various injuries this afternoon after a bus collided with a car before climbing the pavement and knocking down two pedestrians.

Paramedics were called to Clare Road in Clare Estate, Durban just after 4pm today for a collision involving a bus and a car. Reports from the scene indicate that the two vehicles collided before the bus mounted the pavement and ran over two pedestrians leaving them critically injured. One of the pedestrians was stuck underneath the bus and specialized hydraulic equipment had to be used to lift the bus off the critically injured man. A medical helicopter was called to the scene to assist in transporting one of the injured patients. Eight other passengers from the bus also sustained various injuries and were all stabilized on the scene before being transported by Rescue Care and ER24 ambulances to various Durban hospitals.

It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as Clare Road was closed due to the helicopter landing and emergency services vehicles on the scene.
