Baby and two adults killed in taxi collision on the R26 outside of Ladybrand

Three people including a baby died on the R26 outside of Ladybrand this afternoon when a taxi collided into the back of a truck.

At approximately 14:00 paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene and found eight people with various injuries. Fortunately none of them were in a serious condition. They were all treated on the scene before being transported to Ladybrand Provincial hospital.

Paramedics declared the front left passenger in the taxi as well as an adult and the baby dead on the scene. It is believed that they were flung out of the taxi when it ripped open during the collision.

Local authorities were still questioning the driver of the taxi when emergency services left the scene. The exact cause of the incident will be investigated.
