Paramedics respond to Entrapment on Bellair Road

ER24 Durban paramedics responded to a call for a motor vehicle collision last night on Bellair Road near to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital.

On arrival they found a light goods vehicle had veered off the roadway and coming to rest in a nearby canal.

Paramedics immediately reacted and entered the water to stabalise and treat the driver a male in his thirties, believed to be the only occupant of the vehicle. Remarkably he was conscious having only suustained a fractured leg, however due to the extensive damage to his vehicle was entrapped. Advanced life support intervention was administered and rescue services worked for over an hour to free the man who was then placed on specialised extrication equipment and transported by ambulance to a near by hospital for further care.

The cause of the collision and the events preceeding it were unclear, however local authorities were on the scene and investigations are under way.
