Pedestrian on ventilator after collision in Benoni

Shortly before 3pm on Wednesday, ER24 Paramedics responded to an incident where a pedestrian was struck by a bakkie on Voortrekker road in Benoni CBD. On arrival paramedics found a man in his late 30′s lying in the road, bystanders advised paramedics that the man was struck whilst attempting to cross the road.

Paramedics immediately assessed the man and found that he was in critical condition having suffered a severe head injury. Advanced Life Support intervention was required to keep the pedestrian alive where he was placed on a manual ventilator before being transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital for further care.

The driver of the bakkie was left uninjured. Details of the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
