T-Bone collision leaves 1 serious and 1 critical at the corner of Alpine Road and Umgeni Road


Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious collision at the corner of Alpine Road and Umgeni Road Durban around 4pm yesterday afternoon.

On arrival paramedics found that a truck had collided with a bakkie in a T Bone manor. The driver of the bakkie was found laying on the pavement having suffered serious injuries whilst the passenger of the bakkie was found entrapped in the wreckage suffering critical injuries. Immediately SAPS Search and Rescue and Durban Fire Department were called to assist with cutting the patient free. Advanced Life Support paramedics climbed into the wreckage to stabilize the injured 23 year old male. The patient was placed on a manual ventilator and once cut free from the wreckage using the jaws of life was carefully extricated onto a specialized spinal board. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required. The driver was also stabilized on the scene before being transported by ambulance to the same facility.

It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
