Taxi crash at intersection leaves 18 injured

A taxi and a bakkie have collided in the intersection of Inanda Road and Willowfield Rd in Springfield Park Durban just after 16:30 today leaving 18 people injured.

Rescue Care and ER24 paramedics responded to the scene to find that a fully laden taxi had collided with a bakkie in the junction. Paramedics found patients strewn all over the pavement. A quick assessment revealed that a total of eighteen people had sustained various injuries. More resources were called to assist in transporting the multiple patients to hospital. Once more resources had arrived and the patients had been stabilized all of the injured were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the collision however it is alleged that a errant party jump the red phase of the robot. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as emergency personal worked to treat the multiple patients on the scene.
