1 Dead, 28 Injured In M25 Collisions

Crisis Medical Paramedics were called to the M25, North West of Durban at around 07:00 this morning after a bakkie slammed into the back of taxi outside the Bridge City Mall, Kwa Mashu.

First to arrive on scene, paramedics found that sadly a man had died prior to their arrival and nothing further could be done. Three other occupants of the taxi had suffered moderate injuries and were transported to hospital for further medical. As Crisis Medical paramedics were about to leave the scene, a loud bang was heard 400 meters down the road. It was established that a taxi carrying 15 school children on its way to drop them off at school failed to see the stacking traffic. The driver took evasive action, crossed the centre medium and slammed into another taxi injuring a further 10 people.

More ambulances were called to the scene and a total of 25 people, including the 15 school children were transported to hospital with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Traffic was severely disrupted as emergency personnel worked to clear both scenes.

SAPS will be investigating the exact cause of both collisions.
