Collision ruins first day of school in Pietermaritzburg for pupils transported on back of a bakkie

Five schoolchildren will not arrive for their first school day this morning because of a vehicle collision on Edendale road in Escondini, Pietermaritzburg this morning.

The children aged 8 to12 were being transported to school on the back of a bakkie when its brakes allegedly failed causing it to collide with a sedan.

The children were treated for minor injuries and transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg and other hospitals for further care.

Both drivers, males in their thirties, sustained no injuries.

Motorists are urged to drive safely especially when transporting children.
