Earlier this (1/1/2014) evening at about 21h00, there was a collision on the R61, rear Ramsgate, on the KZN South Coast.

The accident was responded to by all of the local emergency services, who on arriving on scene discovered that a bakkie and a minibus had collided head on. The vehicles were severely damaged and scene completely obstructed the road, traffic had to be diverted off the highway. The emergency services triaged the patients and treated them in order according to the severity of their injuries. All the emergency staff ranging from the paramedics to the firemen and police search and rescue staff worked together to treat the 14 surviving patients who had received critical and serious injuries. They were then transported to Port Shepstone and Murchison hospitals for further care.

Unfortunately there were nine people who died at the scene of the accident.

Once the patients had been transported to hospital the police accident scene investigators started conducting an investigation, which will determine the cause of the accident, which at this stage is unknown.
