Photo after bus went down embankment injuring 25 in the Awatikwe area of Inanda, close to Durban

Earlier this afternoon there was a bus accident in the Awatikwe area of Inanda, close to Durban. 25 people were injured when a bus reportedly left the road and went down an embankment.

KZN Emergency Medical Services dispatched several ambulances and response vehicles and a patient transport bus (to transport patients with minor injuries) to the incident. Local emergency services and several private ambulances also attended the accident.

Fourteen patient’s sustained serious injuries and the remainder minor injuries. There were reportedly were also several people uninjured. The paramedics treated the the injured patients for thier injuries on scene before transporting them to local health institutions, including Inanda C clinic for continued medical care.

The police are investigating the matter further.

Paramedics from KZN EMS have attended multiple accidents across the province today, in the process saving many lives and I would like to congratulate them on the hard work they have done.
