Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious accident on the M4 Durban bound just after the Blue Lagoon offramp on Thursday around 09:30am.

Paramedics arrived to find that a fully laden taxi from the north coast had lost control and collided with the concrete barrier before overturning. Paramedics found that thirteen patients had sustained various injuries and more ambulances were called to assist in transporting the injured to hospital. Once all of the injured were stabilized on the scene they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the taxi to lose control and crash however the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as only one lane of the busy freeway was open whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
