Two adults killed as taxi overturned on the R34 between Utrecht and the N11 in KZN

Two adults died when the taxi they were travelling in overturned on the R34 between Utrecht and the N11 in Kwa-Zulu Natal after 7pm last night.

When ER24 Newcastle paramedics arrived on scene they found that the left side of the taxi was ripped open and all its passengers were ejected from it leaving them strewn along the road. Nine of these passengers were young children.

One of the deceased was a male in his thirties who was declared dead by responding paramedics on arrival. He succumbed to the severe head injuries he sustained.

The second deceased, a female in her forties died just after she arrived at Madadeni Provincial Hospital. She was paralysed as a result of the severe spinal injuries she sustained during the collision.

The taxi was travelling on a “relatively good road” according to one responding paramedic making the exact cause of this incident unclear.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate further.
