Vision Transport (Pty) Ltd signs the Responsible Care Public Commitment

Ben Venter, Managing Director of Vision Transport and Louise Lindeque, Responsible Care Manager of CAIA

Vision Transport has become the latest member of the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association to sign the Responsible Care (RC) Public Commitment, thereby committing the company to implement the Guiding Principles of this voluntary initiative of the chemical industry.

“To ensure that chemicals are transported safely, it is vital that the principles of Responsible Care be extended along the value chain so that downstream risks including the safe storage and transportation of chemicals can be appropriately managed,” said CAIA Responsible Care Manager Louise Lindeque, who added that “it is essential for dangerous-goods hauliers and logistics service providers to adopt and implement the Responsible Care Guiding Principles and to integrate these into their company’s existing management practices”.

Vision Transport is a Vaal Triangle based transport company that specialises in the transportation of solvents, heating fuels and acid on behalf of a number of Blue Chip companies throughout South Africa and neighbouring countries. The company, whose headquarters are in Vereeniging, has also been audited to the requirements of the South African Safety and Quality Assessment System (SA SQAS); a system that assesses if logistics service providers’ operations are carried out in a safe and quality manner with due regard for the protection of employees, the public and the environment.

Mr. Ben Venter, Managing Director of Vision Transport says: “We are committed to the protection of the health and safety of our employees and that of our community, as well as satisfying our customers.  Our management has in excess of 120 years of combined experience in the transport industry.  All our drivers are provided with the necessary safety equipment and attend an annual Hazchem training course”.

Over 150 companies are signatories to the voluntary RC initiative in South Africa, which shows that this initiative is more than a set of principles and declarations. Through the sharing of information and a rigorous system of checklists, performance indicators and verification procedures, it enables the industry to demonstrate its improvements over the years and to develop policies for further improvement. Responsible Care helps the chemical industry to gain the trust of the public and to operate safely and sustainably, with due care for the environment and future generations.

Responsible Care is a global initiative by the chemical industry that assists members to improve their safety, health and environmental (SHE) performance, by continuously raising standards in management and operations. CAIA members sign a voluntary pledge, committing themselves to the guiding principles of Responsible Care and undergo regular assessment and third-party audits to ensure compliance.
