16 School Children injured in Taxi Accident Durban (photo)

Sixteen school children have been injured this afternoon after the taxi they were in lost control and hit a light pole before rolling several times ejecting the children. The accident occurred on Umgudulu Road in Reservoir Hills in Durban just after 02:30pm today.

First to arrive Rescue Care paramedics found the injured children lying on the pavement. A quick assessment revealed that sixteen children had been injured, one critically so. The driver had also sustained various injuries. More ambulances were called to assist with the multiple patient accident. Once all the children had been stabilized on the scene they were transported by various ambulances to various Durban Hospitals for the care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the single vehicle to overturn however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Umgudulu Road was closed whilst emergency services worked to clear the scene.
