Early morning rollover crash leaves 1 dead 6 seriously injured

One person has died and six people have been seriously injured this morning after the vehicle they were in rolled several times on the M19 Pinetown bound after Mt Batten Drive off ramp.

First to arrive Rescue Care paramedics were shocked to find injured passengers strewn across the roadway. First medic on scene Brandon Danks recalls what he found “When I arrived on the scene I saw that a bakkie had rolled and come to rest in the centre medium, I also saw all of the occupants strewn across the road. One person immediately called me to a patient lying in the roadway, I quickly assessed him and found that he had suffered fatal injuries and had passed away. My crew mate was busy treating a patient who had been ejected from the vehicle and landed up the bank. We immediately called for more ambulances to assist with the number of patients.” After more ambulances arrived the seriously injured patients were all stabilized using specialized spinal boards before being transported to a nearby hospital. One seriously injured patient was flown with a aero medical helicopter to Addington Hospital.

It is unclear what caused the single vehicle to roll numerous times however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as only one lane of traffic was open to pass the accident scene.
