AN elderly man of Mandawe in Mtubatuba has had his prayers finally answered with Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Willies Mchunu officially handing over the Nyalazi Vehicle Bridge to the local community last Thursday.

Mchunu has also encouraged the community to always contribute human behavioural change and participate in activities that are
meant to change people’s lives for the better.

He applauded Mr. Mhambi Vilakazi (90) who has always assisted the community, prior to the construction of the bridge by using his
small boat, to cross the river.

It was three years ago when Mchunu visited this area and committed the department to construct the bridge over Nyalazi River.

Vilakazi says he could not imagine that by this time his dream would have come true, and that this is thanks to the responsive government.

An amount of R16 million was injected in the construction of the bridge and already communities now have an easy access to
facilities like Mpukunyoni clinic and learners of Bhelebane, Bongubuhle, Madwaleni, Shikishela, Nkosana and Mnandi schools are also benefitting from the new infrastructure.

The MEC further committed to sending a team to do a study on how to construct a proper road linking to the bridge.

“There must be an all-weather road that will be suitable for any condition,” Mchunu said.

He anticipated that by the time he finished his term of office, he would have performed a sod turning for the road.
