Off road biker injured in fall at an old mine dump site in Maraisburg

An off road biker was seriously injured after he fell off his bike in an old mine dump site in Maraisburg this afternoon. It is believed that the biker and some friends went off road riding on the dumpsite and were about three kilometres from the nearest road when the biker fell seriously injuring himself.

Netcare 911 paramedics used motorbikes and four by four vehicles to transport their equipment to where the patient was. Realizing that the terrain was too rough to transport the patient out on the back of a bakkie they called for the Netcare one medical helicopter to assist.

Once the patient was stabilised and skilfully immobilised on a trauma board they airlifted him to a Netcare hospital for the care that he required.
