Teenage girl critical after collision in Pietermaritzburg CBD


A teenage girl was left in a critical condition and her mother suffered serious injuries when they were involved in a collision in Pietermaritzburg’s CBD yesterday evening.

Witnesses said the mother (forties) was allegedly driving through the Berg Street and Chapel Street intersection when she collided with a taxi.

ER24 paramedics’ assessment revealed that she was in a stable condition and she sustained serious spinal injuries due to the impact of the erupted airbag. She was transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg.

The woman’s daughter (16) was worse off having sustained severe head injuries. She was stabilised on scene and was transported to Edendale Hospital for further treatment.

Two passengers from the taxi sustained minor injuries.

The local fire department was of great assistance on scene and the exact cause if this collision is under investigation by local authorities.
