15 hurt in taxi accident on the M4 South bound before Umlazi

Fifteen people have been hurt, two seriously so after the taxi they were in collided with a truck on the M4 South bound before Umlazi Offramp just after 05:30pm tonight.

Paramedics arrived to find that the fully laden taxi had collided with the truck and come to rest between the Armco barrier and the truck. Two people were severely entrapped in the wreckage. Immediately Fire and Rescue were called to assist in cutting the trapped free. Advanced Life Support intervention was required to stabilize the entrapped patients whilst fire fighters worked to cut them free. Once they had been freed all of the injured were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required.

It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
