A male dialysis patient was successfully resuscitated after a head-on-collision on Old Saint Lowry’s Pass Road in Somerset West this afternoon.

The man who is in his late thirties, was on his way back from dialysis treatment when when his bakkie collided with an SUV.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the the man lying in a pool of blood at a bus stop approximately 5 meters from the wrecked vehicles. He was found on the brink of death having lost approximately 2 litres of blood and showing no level of consciousness.

Paramedics were told that the after the collision, the dialysis patient walked to the bus stop all the while unaware than his dialysis port had become detached. This, along with a laceration on his leg caused him to lose blood.

On their way to Mediclinic Vergelegen, paramedics administered fluid replacement therapy to restore the man’s blood pressure levels to which he responded by breathing steadily.

He was then duly handed over to hospital staff on arrival at the hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The driver and only occupant if the SUV sustained no injuries.
