Former Boks team-tackle Absa Cape Epic Stage 1

WESTERN CAPE – 24 March 2014 – Stage 1 of the Absa Cape Epic took the riders on a 113-km route out and back to Robertson, that included the torturous 2 450 metres of climbing.

Former Springbok Rugby Player Stefan Terblanche said the experience has taken him out of his comfort zone and taught him more about himself. “When we got to the first climbs it got quite nasty; there was a lot of tough walks. It was a long day; we learnt that we need to pace ourselves and not chase the racing snakes,” commented Terblanche after the gruelling day.

Terblanche’s teammate is 1995 World Cup-winning Springbok Joel Stransky, now riding his 5th Absa Cape Epic.

Day 2 of the Absa Cape Epic saw a major change in the overall standings for both the men and the women. The German pairing of Markus Kaufmann and Jochen Kaess take over the general classification lead, while the new leaders in the women’s race is Sally Bigham and Ester Suss from team Meerindal.
