Gateway to great fun as learners are greeted by convoy of emergency vehicles

The last thing any of the Gateway School learners expected was to be greeted by a convoy of ER24 vehicles on Tuesday morning.

ER24 was approached by Rawson properties, who wanted to give something back to the community. Their choice was an act of kindness for Gateway School, a self-managing government school for learners with special educational needs. The school renders services to learners with an intellectual disability.

ER24 joined the act of kindness by supplying one rescue vehicle, one ambulance and a fire truck to entertain the children for the morning. Once the convoy of emergency vehicles had parked, a brief demonstration was given on equipment found on an ambulance before the learners got into the real fun –playing in the water.

Each child had a turn to hold the fire hose, spraying their friends before running off to get wet themselves. Fire fighting foam was also sprayed out onto the field, giving everyone involved a little bit of clean fun, including the medics themselves.

All in all, fun was had by everyone present. The smiles on the children’s faces made it all worth it and it was a day not soon to be forgotten. It is amazing what red lights and a little water can do to brighten a little ones day.

A big thanks to Rawson for their amazing work !
