One man was left in a critical condition after his light motor vehicle collided with a truck on the N8 in Bloemfontein this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the intersection and found the light motor vehicle wedged beneath a large truck trailer. Upon assessment, paramedics found one male patient who sustained severe head and chest injuries. Advanced life support paramedics began their treatment while rescue services used rescue tool to free the trapped man. (did they treat him while he was trapped?)
After a few minutes, the patient was freed from the wreck and was placed on a spine board. He was immediately transported by ER24 in a critical but stable condition to Mediclinic Bloemfontein for further care.
Witnesses on scene said the vehicle had apparently been swerving between lanes, oblivious of the truck turning the corner. The man apparently skipped the red traffic light before colliding with the truck.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
