Overturned bakkie on the R74 in Stanger leaves 18 injured

Eighteen people were injured after a bakkie overturned down a steep embankment on the R 74 in Stanger this afternoon at around 12h41. Reports indicate that children between the ages of six and sixteen were transported to a local soccer ground in Stanger when the vehicle veered off the road and overturned.

Netcare 911, provincial paramedics and the Kwa Dakuza fire department arrived at the scene and found that the children had been thrown off the back of the vehicle while it was tumbling down the embankment.

After triaging it was found that two people had sustained serious injuries while sixteen children miraculously escaped with minor injuries. Paramedics stabilised the injured on scene before they were transported to various hospitals in the area for the care that they required.
