Woman killed in Etwatwa taxi collision

A woman in her twenties was killed this morning in a taxi collision on Laris Street in Etwatwa, Johannesburg East.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene of the collision they found the deceased lying on the road behind one of the taxis in a critical condition.

Extensive advanced life support treatment was practised on the patient and a helicopter dispatched to airlift her from the scene, however, she succumbed to the suspected head trauma and spinal injuries she sustained.

The four other commuters injured in the collision sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were stabilised on scene and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The exact circumstances leading to the collision are unclear however damage on the vehicles suggests that the drivers ‘t-boned’ one another.

Local authorities are investigating this incident.
