Fatal accident leaves 1 dead 17 injured at N3 West bound before Pavilion

Just after 6am this morning Rescue Care paramedics were called to the N3 West bound before Pavilion for a serious collision.

On arrival Rescue Care paramedics found that two taxis and a bakkie had collided on the west bound carriageway. Patients were found strewn across the national highway. More resources were immediately called to assist with the multiple casualty scene. One man had unfortunately sustained fatal injuries and was declared by paramedics. A further seventeen people had sustained various injuries some seriously so and were stabilized on the scene by various services before being transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required.

It is alleged that a taxi travelling on the Durban bound carriageway somehow lost control and went through the centre medium before colliding with the second taxi and bakkie travelling west bound. SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as only the fast lane was open whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
