A man sustained critical injuries after a car, on the corners of Mulbarton and William Nicol drive, collided with him early this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, responded to the intersection to find the patient lying in the middle of the road. Paramedics immediately began their assessment, finding that the patient had sustained a serious head and neck injury. Immediate advanced life support intervention was performed on the patient, given his critical condition.
The intersection had to be closed off for some time due to the AER24 medical helicopter that was called in to help treat and transport the patient. Once the patient was stabilised and placed on a spine board, he was airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg for urgent medical treatment.
Witnesses later said the man had apparently run across the road without noticing the oncoming car.
