Two people have tragically died while eight others were injured on the D 2343 in the Mafakathini area near Pietermaritzburg at around 20h00. Reports indicate that the bakkie with ten people had veered off the roadway and plunged down an embankment, its twisted remains coming to rest in a ravine.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the passengers had been ejected from the bakkie, tragically two died, four sustained serious injuries while four others escaped with minor injuries.
After the injured were stabilised at the scene paramedics transported them to various hospitals in the area for the care that they required.
