Two alleged dagga dealers arrested at Golela Border Post

South African Police Service members posted at Golela Border Post made a breakthrough when they arrested two suspects for possession of dagga at the border post. On 29 March 2014 at approximately 08:00, members posted at Golela Port of Entry were patrolling along the borderline when they received information about drugs in the area. They proceeded to the identified place and searched the premises. One hundred and thirty six kilograms (136 kg) of dagga to the street value of R190 400 was found stashed in a room waiting to be transported to Durban. It is believed that it was from Swaziland and it was kept in a house near the borderline. Two suspects, Mandla Ndwandwe (20) and Thembelani Nyawo (29) were arrested and charged with possession of dagga. They appeared in the Pongola Magistrates’ Court on 31 March 2014 and the case was remanded for further investigation.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended good partnership between the police and the community who participated in the fight against crime by providing information that led to the arrest and recovery of dagga in the border. She also commended the good work done by the members posted at the border post in preventing cross border crimes. “The members will continue with their good work to make sure that those who transport drugs from other countries to South Africa are caught and arrested,” she said.
