Five people have lost their life and two have sustained critical injuries after two vehicles collided just before 5am this morning on Old Richmond Road, Kwa Dangezi just outside Marianhill, Durban.
Rescue Care and EMRS paramedics arrived on scene to find the two badly damaged vehicles obstructing the roadway. One vehicle had burnt out completely whilst the Fire Department was extinguishing the blaze. Paramedics did a quick survey and found that two people had passed away after the initial impact unfortunately they were unable to escape the burning vehicle. A further five people had sustained critical injuries however a further three people passed away on scene despite paramedics efforts. The remaining two critically injured patients were stabilized on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that they required.
It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating the accident further.
