Fatal single vehicle crash on the R33, near the Albert falls turn- off

Early this morning paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and a private ambulance service responded to the R33, near the Albert falls turn off, where there was an accident involving a single light motor vehicle.

The paramedics worked together to treat one patient who was critically injured as well as entrapped in the vehicle. The “jaws of life” were used to extricate the patient. Sadly there were two people who had sustained fatal injuries, who were declared dead on scene.

The critically injured surviving patient was transported by paramedics from a private ambulance service to greys hospital in Pietermaritzburg for continued medical care.

The cause of the accident and the events preceding and leading up to the accident are being investigated by the police and is for police comment.
