KZN EMS paramedics attend to a motor vehicle crash near Dundee

Earlier this afternoon KZN Emergency Medical Services paramedics responded to an accident which occurred on the road between Dundee and Nquthu in Northern KZN.

Four people were traveling in a bakkie which was towing a trailer, with three cows on, when the vehicle overturned. To make matters worse, on the back of the bakkie was a load of chemical acids, used in pit toilets.

Two of the patients sustained critical injuries and the other two sustained serious injuries due to trauma sustained during the accident, as well as chemical burns due to the chemical acids spilling onto them after the containers broke during the accident.

Paramedics from KZN EMS, officers from the SAPS & RTI and the fire department responded to the scene. The patients were treated for their injuries before being transported to Dundee hospital for continued care.

The cattle seem to have not been injured as they ran away from the scene, when the trailer overturned.

The cause of the accident is not known and is being investigated by the police
