Pedestrian accident at Mountain rise railway station in Pietermaritzburg leaves patient critically injured

A man is fighting for his life after he was hit by a train near the Mountain rise railway station in Pietermaritzburg this evening at around 17h55. Exact detail as to how the accident happened is still a subject for investigation.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the critically wounded man still trapped under the train with life threatening injuries. Paramedics clambered in under the train and after the man was skilfully immobilised on a trauma board they removed him from under the train.

Once out the patient went into cardiac arrest, paramedics placed him on a ventilator and after a few minutes managed to get his heart beating again. The patient was loaded in an ambulance and transported to hospital under the constant care of an advanced life support paramedic.
