Taxi and truck collide killing 1 injuring 10 on the corner of Sydney Road and Bayhead Road

Rescue Care paramedics have just attended a horrific accident involving a truck and a taxi on the corner of Sydney Road and Bayhead Road.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived to find total carnage and chaos as members of public had stopped to assist. Paramedics found that a truck proceeding down Bayhead Road had collided with a taxi at the Sydney Road intersection before dragging it and both coming to a stop after the junction. Paramedics found patients entrapped in the wreckage as well as some lying on the roadway.

A quick triage was done and more resources were called to assist as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics. Durban Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to free the trapped driver who had sustained critical injuries.

A female passenger had unfortunately passed away before paramedics could arrive due to the severity of her injuries. One passenger was placed on a manual ventilator on scene due to the critical injuries he had sustained. Three people had sustained critical injuries and seven others had sustained moderate injuries. Once all of the injured were stabilized on the scene they were transported by ambulances to King Edward Hospital for the further care that they required.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
