Two people were killed and three others sustained minor injuries when an Opel Corsa collided with a tree on Peter Road near Hole-in-One Street in Ruimsig, West of Johannesburg.

In the early hours of Saturday morning paramedics from ER24 came across the incident where they found the Corsa wedged up against a nearby tree. Paramedics immediately notified the ER24 dispatch centre and called for extra resources.

Upon their assessment they found a man (20 ‘s), believed to be the driver, dead behind the steering wheel as well as a female passenger (20 ‘s) dead in the vehicle. It appeared as if they were killed on impact. Three people were found outside of the vehicle.

The three occupants that were found outside of the vehicle sustained only moderate injuries. One of the men sustained a possible fracture to his shoulder and the other was found with a few lacerations. A third man was found walking around on scene, which later declined to be transported to hospital by paramedics. The two injured men were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The impact of the collision left the two deceased trapped in the vehicle. The local fire department had to use hydraulic equipment to free their trapped bodies from the wreckage.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known. The Johannesburg Metro Police attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.
