Critically injured man airlifted from R21

A 40-year-old man with critical injuries has been airlifted from the R21 in Kempton Park, Johannesburg East this morning.

An ER24 helicopter was activated for the patient because he sustained serious head injuries in a collision and required rapid transportation.

The only other person injured on scene was a 35-year-old man who sustained facial injuries, predominantly. He was transported to Thembisa Hospital by road for the relevant medical treatment.

The collision apparently occurred when a 10-ton truck rear-ended a light motor vehicle injuring both of its occupants.

The two occupants of the truck were not injured.

The incident is under investigation by local authorities.
